Notifications to users
If you want to inform BPC users about certain events, you can use the notification function for this purpose. This may involve planned maintenance work, for example. You can also specify which persons (groups) receive the notification and whether they must be confirmed or are only for information purposes.
Call
The notification function is located in the administration area () in the Overview > Notification tab.
Define target group
Notifications can be sent specifically to certain users or target groups. The target group is defined according to the Rights management of the BPC. A distinction is made between two target groups:
-
Recipients who have a role.
-
Recipients who are assigned to an organization.
Depending on the type of recipient group, a list of either organizations or roles is offered, which are available in the BPC.
Accordingly, you can define one or more recipient groups based on membership of an organization or also address individual roles.
If you want to specify several organizations or roles, click on the corresponding fields in the drop-down list one after the other.
You can also send messages specifically to users who are currently logged in.
To do this, activate the corresponding checkbox.
The filters for recipient groups are still active, even if you select to send to logged-in users.
If you want to send a message to all logged-in users, select the role bpcuser as the recipient group, as every user has this role.
Set the urgency of the display
Depending on the type of display, the messages appear in different places in the user interface. There are three different display options:
-
Display to be confirmed
A pop-up window opens on the user interface of the target group. This is only closed again when the user confirms.
-
Temporary display
A message appears on the user interface of the target group, which disappears by itself after a short time.
-
No display
The notification only appears in the notification history.
There are also different notification types that make the urgency more visible to the recipient:
-
Error
-
Warning
-
Information
All notifications, regardless of type or display, are saved in the notification menu and can be read there again.
Time validity restriction
Notifications can define a specific validity period. If the validity of a notification has expired, it is no longer displayed in the notification list.
Add link
A notification can contain a link. This can either be a link to an external website or a BPC-internal navigation to a specific module.
To set a link, either "External website" or "BPC-internal navigation" can be selected under Link. The link can then be specified in the corresponding text field.
The entire URL must be specified for a link to an external website. The hash component of the BPC URL is specified for internal BPC navigation. This is located in the URL after the '#' sign.
Notification topics
Notifications can have a topic. The API can then be used to delete specific notifications of a topic.
This is useful, for example, if you want to send a license expiry warning and delete old license warnings so that a user only sees the current warning of this topic.

Send notification
After you have selected or filled in all fields, click the Send notification button.
